A 62 year old retired vice-principal has been arrested by the Imo state police for allegedly killing his mother and hiding her corpse in his house since 2003.

Dr. Chimezie Osuigwe was arrested after the embalmed body of his mother was discovered hidden in a cupboard in his house yesterday Monday April 14th by another family member.
Police say the body of the woman, Lucy Osuigwe, who was declared missing in 2003, 'was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine in a private room in a circumstance depicting ritual practice.'
The police believe the retired educationist and devotee of the Guru Maharaji sect, killed his mother for ritual purposes. His kinsmen have been asking him about the whereabout of his mother and he tells them that she travelled to their abroad to visit her children because some of her children are based abroad. The body of the old woman was found by the man's son who was searching for his WAEC certificate in his father's wardrobe. Dr. Chimezie Osuigwe is being held for first degree murder.
