Robbers kill security guard

A trained information technology technician, Ahmed Lawal, who also works as a security man, has been shot by six hoodlums at Banji Lawal Street in the Bariga area of Lagos State.
The 30-year-old native of Imosan, Ogun State, said to be a member of the Oodua People’s Congress, was employed as a security guard by the residents of Banji Lawal.
An eyewitness, Segun Olawaiye, who also work as a security man on the street with the deceased, toldPUNCH Metro that they had closed for the day on Wednesday when they were accosted by six armed men.
Olawaiye said, ‘’We were just leaving work about 5.30am for our respective homes when we saw six boys marching towards our direction. When they noticed we were the security men, one of them brought out a gun and fired at us; I was lucky to escape, but Lawal, unfortunately, was hit.”
Some other people on the road at the time of the incident were said to have fled for safety. After firing more shots, the gunmen were said to have eventually left.
Olawaiye said, “When I called for help, our supervisors came and took Ahmed to the General Hospital, Gbagada. Ahmed was bleeding profusely from his head and other parts of his body where he had sustained gunshot injuries.
“Unfortunately, Ahmed was not at the hospital because they were on strike.  We equally tried the General Hospital Somolu without success. It was while we were on our way to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital that Ahmed died. His corpse was also rejected at LUTH because he was brought in dead.’’
PUNCH Metro gathered that Ahmed’s remains had been taken to his home town for burial.
There was no response from the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ngozi Braide as she did not respond to telephone calls and text messages.
